Students meet logistics skills shortfall

29 October 2018/Categories: CILT, Industry News, Logistics & Supply Chain, Institute News

Students with career ambitions in the logistics industry will be better placed than ever thanks to a new partnership between Cardiff University and NOVUS.

Sector-specific guest lectures, mentoring, career coaching and industrial placement opportunities are just some of the benefits in store for undergraduates specialising in Logistics and Operations Management on BSc Business Management at Cardiff Business School.

NOVUS works with universities across the UK to support the development of students and address skills shortages within the logistics industry.

Work-ready

Dr Andrew Potter, Reader in Logistics and Transport at Cardiff Business School, said: “The value of providing specialist logistics and supply chain knowledge has long been recognised, and the NOVUS Lite scheme is an excellent way of supporting students as they enter the industry...

“We’re fortunate enough to be one of the leading centres in the UK for research in logistics and supply chain management, so this partnership with NOVUS is an exciting development for our students who will gain both research-led knowledge and enhanced employability skills.”

The latest to join the Novus Lite scheme, Cardiff University joins Aston University, University of Derby, University of Hull and Northumbria University to put work-ready logistics and operations graduates at the forefront of their learning and teaching ambitions.

Next generation

Professor Helen Williams, Associate Dean for Learning & Teaching at Cardiff Business School, said: “Employability plays a large part in our learning and teaching and so participation in the NOVUS Lite scheme is another feather in our cap...

“And, of course, in line with our public value ethos, we are helping to train and motivate future leaders in an area of the job market where a skills shortage has been identified.”

Cardiff Business School has one of the largest groupings of academic staff in logistics and operations management in the world, with experts in mathematics, economics, engineering, geography, law, management, and psychology.
