Diversity is not simply an HR buzzword; an inclusive workforce reaps real business benefits. The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) UK passionately promotes equality and diversity.

It is core to the institute's existence that it will challenge all and any barriers that might impede the best person - irrelevant of gender or background - from getting the right job and being fairly rewarded for that commitment.

To celebrate and promote the benefits of diversity CILT (UK) is working in partnership with Nimble Media Ltd to stage the inaugural Big Logistics and Transport Diversity Challenge being held at Newark Showground, in Nottinghamshire, on 26 June 2019.

One of the initiatives to mark the institute's centenary year, the action-packed event is a cross between It's a Knockout and The Krypton Factor.

The series of fun team challenges will demonstrate the benefits of working in a diverse group, promoting the CILT (UK) key message: "Diversity is Better for People, Better for Profit, Better for the Profession".

Teams of 10 will get to grips with a host of inspiring activities designed to test their physical prowess, mental agility and skill sets including Laser clay shoot, Archery, Haka, Giant Scalextric, The Unclimbable Ladder and Revenge of the Space Hoppers.

The all-inclusive event provides participants with the opportunity to network, team build and fundraise for Aspire, a charitable careers foundation within CILT that provides funded opportunities for education, training and development to UK and international applicants.

Organiser Nimble Media Ltd, based in Oakham, Rutland, is the brains behind the hugely successful Big Rail Diversity Challenge, Women in Rail's flagship event – described by one participant as ‘the best day at work you’ll ever have!’. Established in 2016 to highlight the benefits of gender balance and diversity in the UK rail industry, the event has seen a 75% growth in attendance – with over 560 participants in 2018, with teams attending from Amey, Bombardier, High Speed 2, Siemens and Colas Rail.

The feedback has been outstanding – with one attendee from SCS Railways (Skanska, Costain and STRABAG) – Fran Palmer saying; “The Big Rail Diversity Challenge was the one of the best days of my career so far! The teamwork and communication required meant for a brilliant, constructive day with colleagues, as well as it is being extremely fun and a great networking event with all of the other companies in the room. It was absolutely incredible to see such diversity at the event and the value added as a result. A very well run-day and brilliant opportunity which I would encouraging everyone to get involved with!”

Vicky Binley, Nimble Media Ltd Director, says: "We are thrilled to be organising The Big Logistics and Transport Diversity Challenge.

"Although designed to be fun for everyone taking part, there is a serious message too - that diverse teams perform better.

"There's a wealth of research that shows inclusive groups are more creative and more successful at problem solving than homogeneous ones.

"By tapping into different backgrounds, experiences and skill sets ideas from varying perspectives can be shared, achieving goals faster and resolving issues more efficiently.

"The benefits of this greater collective knowledge are all too evident...whether taking part in fun challenges or in the workplace."
