First Bus continues to promote benefits of workplace learning

04 June 2019/Categories: CILT, Industry News, Active Travel & Travel Planning, Bus & Coach, Transport Planning

First Bus is celebrating another successful year of promoting workplace learning after staff based across its 14 operating companies took part in the biggest festival of workplace learning, last month.

Over the past three years, First Bus has supported Learning at Work Week; a unique annual event to build learning cultures at work. The theme for 2019 was “Shaping the Future” and staff based at depots across the UK arranged unique and exciting events for colleagues to partake in during the week.

Some of the highlights from this year’s campaign included:
Mental health awareness training in partnership with charity, Mind, in the Midlands.
Cycling maintenance classes with Evans Cycles in Eastern Counties.
Learning sign language and new language skills in West of England.
Promotion of the First Bus App, First Bus University and how to access First Bus Rewards.

Hansi Jackson, Head of Learning and Development at First Bus, said: “Our support of Learning at Work Week has now become an annual event, as we’ve seen the benefits of providing new opportunities to engage with staff about the importance of continual learning. It’s important to get colleagues involved in learning and development across the business, as this helps to break down any barriers and perceptions that may prevent learning.

“Many colleagues now have an increased understanding of the level of investment in their learning and the wide range of opportunities available. We’re proud of the efforts that colleagues have made to support this year’s campaign and the new skills and knowledge they will have gained as a result.”
