Pretty Little Thing and Clipper celebrate first year in Sheffield

08 August 2019/Categories: CILT, Industry News, Freight Forwarding, Logistics & Supply Chain

Just 12 months after the go-live of the major contract with PrettyLittleThing.com, to provide logistics solutions from a new 600,000 sq. ft. site in Sheffield, Clipper are celebrating a successful year, having reached a number of significant milestones.

With over 46 sites across the UK & Europe, the Sheffield operation has become one of Clipper's largest. This fast-moving fashion, shoe and accessories e-commerce logistics operation processes inbound deliveries from a variety of UK and international suppliers as well as outbound UK & international shipments.

Over the last six months, Clipper has successfully transitioned over 1,000 employees onto permanent contracts, becoming a significant employer in Sheffield and South Yorkshire. This followed considerable investment in creating a people-focused, positive on-site work environment. Colleagues enjoy state-of-the-art on-site facilities, including restaurants serving nutritionally balanced meals, fitness and entertainment hubs.

Sheffield City Council have played a significant role in helping Clipper and PrettyLittleThing establish their operation in Sheffield, supporting the recruitment strategy. The partnership has become a shining example of private and public sector collaboration. Sheffield has proved to be the perfect location for the operation from many perspectives, including labour availability, transport links and diversity. Testament to this superb employee engagement program, is the extremely low voluntary labour turnover, which is currently running at less than 1% month-on-month, which is significantly below industry norms.

Clipper's Fresh Start program, which champions a diverse and inclusive workforce, and has allowed Clipper to open their doors to people who might otherwise have a barrier into entering the world of work, has also been a central part of the strategy, with over 160 colleagues recruited through the program.  This includes individuals with disabilities, ex-military, retirees, ex-offenders, and full-time parents.

Clipper and PrettyLittleThing have worked exceptionally well together and in true partnership to deliver against their KPIs. The operation has also attained the ROSPA Gold Award without transitioning through Bronze and Silver - a fantastic achievement in such a short space of time.

Looking to the future, the Sheffield site is now on a Continuous Improvement journey. Innovation initiatives are the focus to improve operational performance, drive efficiencies and support the future scale of the operation.

The facility also benefits from an education program to empower and encourage colleagues in day-to-day decision making. An engagement program has also been put in place, to ensure all colleagues have their own personal development program for continued growth.

Pretty Little Thing commented: "In our first year in partnership with Clipper, we have developed a successful working relationship. In collaboration with Clipper, we continue to seek out opportunities to further improve operational efficiency and improve the customer experience. We recognise the benefits of a long-term relationship with Clipper in Sheffield, and are exploring all options to ensure that we continue to provide incredible service to our customer, with Clipper's support."

Steve Parkin, Executive Chairman at Clipper Logistics says: "What PrettyLittleThing & Clipper have achieved in 12 short months is nothing short of incredible. It's a testament to Clipper's ability to deliver innovative solutions for retailers of any scale. We are looking forward to further developing our relationship and driving strong service levels to reinforce the efficiency and effectiveness of our partnership."
