Port of Dover Cargo announces new partnership with Duferco

As its new, state of the art cargo terminal becomes fully operational, Port of Dover Cargo's customer base is continuing to flourish, with Duferco becoming the latest company to load through the new cargo facility for the first time next week.

Importing Rebar breakbulk cargo into Dover, the SVS Vega import vessel will be Duferco’s debut call at the Port on the 29th October. It will be a landmark moment for Port of Dover Cargo, as it not only welcomes a new customer, but also a brand-new commodity through the Terminal.

Barbara Buczek, Chief Commercial Officer at the Port of Dover said: “Our new Terminal has recently become operational, and I’m delighted that we are already starting to see the incredible opportunities it is bringing to the business. The upcoming debut call from Duferco will not only showcase a new partnership with such a highly established trader, but also see our new facilities handle Rebar steel for the first time.”

Mark Varney, Director of Duferco UK Ltd said: “Duferco UK are delighted to be the first steel customer for the new berth at the Port of Dover and we look forward to working with the port for our future steel cargoes servicing our customers in the South East and London areas.

The steel market like many others is a challenging one and we need strong partnerships at the ports that we bring our vessels into to ensure good service and continuity of supply to our trading partners. We hope by entering into this new relationship with Dover that we can help one another further grow and expand the steel distribution business for the future.”

The Shipping Division has a long history within Duferco, being one of the key areas of expertise since the founding of steel trading operations. Over the years the relevance of the Shipping team has grown significantly and the obvious evolution has been the upward integration by means of acquisition of own vessels.

The Cargo Terminal is a major part of the £250 million Dover Western Docks revival project. It has been delivered to keep up with the demands of an ever-expanding cargo business at the Port.
