XPO Logistics has had its consolidation centre services at Birmingham Airport elevated to be accredited by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) for Inflight Supplies status (IFS).
XPO has worked with Birmingham Airport for the past two years, providing security screening, consolidation and forwarding services to airside retailers, food and beverage suppliers.
During the IFS application process, XPO had to demonstrate its depth of knowledge of security aviation as well as a robust audit, tracking and reporting processes that satisfied all CAA security requirements.
XPO’s new position as an IFS Regulated Supplier enables direct-to-planes delivery.
Gavin Williams, managing director, supply chain – UK and Ireland, XPO Logistics, said, “I commend our team at Birmingham Airport for earning the UK’s first IFS accreditation granted to a 3PL in the UK as part of a consolidation centre offering. This is a significant step forward in the development of our airport consolidation service strategy.”
