DHL expands contract with Aston Martin to 2027 to include new manufacturing plant in St Athan

24 February 2020/Categories: CILT, Industry News, Logistics & Supply Chain, Operations Management

DHL Supply Chain, the principal logistics partner for Aston Martin, has been appointed to manage the full in-bound supply chain at St Athan, the company’s new manufacturing facility in South Wales. In addition, DHL’s contract with the iconic British manufacturer has been extended to the end of 2027 following a successful two-year implementation.

Originally appointed for a five-year term in August 2017, DHL currently manages the inbound transportation, inventory management, warehousing and in-plant logistics to support the brand’s production facility in Gaydon, where over 5,000 luxury cars are produced each year. The appointment of DHL to manage the St Athan manufacturing facility comes as a result of the high levels of service delivered at Gaydon and the expansion will allow DHL to bring significant employment opportunities to South Wales over the coming months.

Aston Martin appointed DHL as its logistics partner due to the company’s shared values and culture, industry expertise and global capacity, along with its ability to help Aston Martin adapt its supply chain for the future.

Jeremy Scoones, Aston Martin Head of Sponsorship & Partnerships said: “We’re looking forwarded to entering this new phase of the partnership.  DHL was chosen as our preferred provider due to the team’s proven launch expertise and ability to provide an agile and cost effective solution across multiple sites. We believe the company is the right partner to support us in delivering our Second Centenary Plan.”

Mike Bristow, Managing Director, Manufacturing Logistics, DHL Supply Chain added: “We’re delighted that our relationship with Aston Martin is going from strength to strength and that we’re able to support such an iconic brand on its journey. Our approach offers Aston Martin a one-stop logistics solution that simplifies complex logistics processes and can support all of its future needs”.
