Coronavirus whitepaper: A complete guide to warehouse social distancing

07 April 2020/Categories: CILT, Industry News, Logistics & Supply Chain, Operations Management, Coronavirus

As it stands today, the UK government has stopped short of implementing a full lockdown to reduce the spread of coronavirus, and the risk of overwhelming our health service.  Implementing social distancing for all, shielding for the most vulnerable and self-isolation for anyone with or in contact with someone with symptoms is proving to be a real challenge whilst trying to maintain essential services and avoid a total shut-down of the economy.

It is in all our interests to adapt our behaviours quickly and fully to slow the spread of coronavirus. We anticipate social distancing measures will be required for several months; therefore, most organisations will need to adopt social distancing in the workplace.

Many organisations have chosen to cease operations, feeling unable to implement safe working practises.  Others (both essential and non-essential) have continued to work with a range of measures in place.  Recent press reports show that some organisations in our sector are not putting in place appropriate measures.

The Davies & Robson team has compiled some practical ideas to support essential warehouse operations to maintain or recommence some level of activity whilst following Government guidance and WHO recommendations.
