CILT in Northern Ireland is supporting the Northern Ireland Environment Agency and the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs with its call to maintain essential services over the coming weeks to protect public health.
Local Councils in Northern Ireland are facing a potential shortage of drivers for refuse collection vehicles and HGV mechanics.
If you are a HGV driver or mechanic furloughed through the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme, your valuable skills can help support and safeguard communities, and sustain momentum in the battle against Covid-19.
It is essential that refuse collection services are maintained to protect public health.
Drivers of refuse collection vehicles require a HGV Class C licence and a Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC). Within the commercial sector, many HGV drivers and mechanics have been placed on furlough as they are unable to do their normal work because of the pandemic travel restrictions and closure of non-essential businesses.
Your valuable skills can help support and safeguard communities, and sustain momentum in the battle against Covid-19. Volunteers will receive travelling expenses*, and volunteering does not affect your 80% furlough payment.
If you are a HGV driver or mechanic furloughed through the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme by your employer and;
- Have a HGV Class C Licence and CPC or;
- Are a time-served HGV Mechanic and;
- Are symptom free and not self-isolating for any reason and;
- Are willing and able to volunteer
