Tell HMRC how you will be impacted by new processes for Northern Ireland goods movements

11 June 2020/Categories: CILT, Industry News, Aviation, Freight Forwarding, Logistics & Supply Chain, Operations Management, Ports, Maritime & Waterways

The government has published a questionnaire on gov.uk that allows businesses to tell HMRC that they will be impacted by the new processes for Northern Ireland goods movements.

CILT is encouraging its members and businesses to get in touch especially if they have no experience of international trade. However, the Institute want all businesses to self-identify if they are affected so government can make sure that its guidance and communications are reaching the right people.

At the end of the transition period when the Northern Ireland Protocol comes into force there will be changes to the way goods move between Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Your business may be impacted by these changes if you can answer yes to any of the questions below.

  1. Do you move goods between Great Britain and Northern Ireland?
  2. Do you move goods between Great Britain and Northern Ireland on behalf of someone?
  3. Are you based in Northern Ireland and currently receive goods from Great Britain?
  4. Do you send parcels between Great Britain and Northern Ireland using Royal Mail or an express operator?

On 20th May, the government published its paper, The UK’s approach to the Northern Ireland Protocol that set out how the UK will implement the Northern Ireland Protocol while upholding Northern Ireland’s place in the UK and respecting the Belfast (Good Friday) Agreement.

You will also be able to sign up for email updates on the new requirements.

You will need to fill in the questionnaire on screen. You cannot save a partly completed questionnaire so have all the information you need before you start to fill it in.
