The challenge of future carbon and emissions reduction for rural communities

05 August 2020/Categories: CILT, Industry News, Active Travel & Travel Planning, Aviation, Bus & Coach, Freight Forwarding, Logistics & Supply Chain, Rail, Transport Planning, Coronavirus

Don't miss your chance to offer your thoughts on the interventions needed to help rural economies play their role in the carbon challenge, whilst at the same time reflecting the potentially different needs of the rural environment.

After a successful inaugural virtual Coffee Morning last month, CILT's Freight & Logistics Policy Group is once again opening it's coffee-shop doors on Wednesday 26th August. The challenge of future carbon and emissions reduction for rural communities will investigate:

  • What the government needs to do differently to support rural communities and their transport needs?
  • How current government policy needs to change to “rural proof” the Road to Zero?
  • What specific challenges are there for reaching zero carbon in the rural environment?
  • If you have one message to government about the transport needs of the rural community what would it be?

There is an overwhelming need to decelerate the rate of climate change, by among other measures, transport decarbonisation and the Government launched the Road to Zero in this vane.

However, it is increasingly clear that a “one size fits all” approach is likely to have major societal effects on already challenged rural communities and perhaps should be avoided.

This coffee morning will introduce some of the Group's findings of itsresearch to date, but more importantly to hear your experiences and thoughts on the interventions needed to help rural economies play their role in the carbon challenge, whilst at the same time reflecting the potentially different needs of the rural environment.
