The Department for Transport (DfT) and Transport for London (TfL) have published revised safeguarding plans for the proposed Crossrail 2 route following a public consultation.
While some key areas between Hackney and Chelsea have been protected from conflicting development since 1991, the suggested route has been changed several times to better serve the city’s changing transport needs.
Minor changes have been made at Wandsworth Common, Chelsea, Soho Square and Angel in light of concerns highlighted during the consultation. There will also be a new tunnel entrance at Tottenham Hale, where the line will switch from overground to underground.
The transport secretary Patrick McLoughlin said: “Supporting transport infrastructure in London is a vital part of our long term economic plan. Crossrail 2 has the potential to improve connectivity, increase capacity and generate tens of thousands of jobs.”
In the future, all planning applications for projects on the route must be submitted to TfL, to ensure that they do not interfere with the potential for Crossrail 2.
