A report on the last five years’ progress on the London Underground (LU) network has been published. It is largely positive, showcasing the impact of an ongoing programme of modernisations.
Over the period, the cost of transporting each passenger has fallen by almost 20 per cent. Journey times have been reduced by an average of two minutes, and delays are down by 43 per cent.
Three lines have been completely modernised, which has resulted in a 21 per cent capacity increase on the Victoria line, 20 per cent on the Northern line and 33 per cent on the Jubilee line.
Mike Brown, managing director of LU, said: “From the major part we played in the success of the London 2012 Games, to modernised lines and new trains, the last five years have been a great time for London Underground. But let's be clear - the job is far from done.”
He is referring to the ongoing works to keep the service as good as possible, including the flagship Crossrail project.
