Transport for London (TfL) have announced plans to upgrade the Victoria line so that it can run trains as frequently as once every 100 seconds during busy times.
The Victoria line currently transports over 200 million passengers every year, and demand is set to rise further as London’s population grows. The improvements will provide a welcome 40 per cent capacity increase for the line.
The points at Walthamstow central crossover currently prevent TfL from running more than 24 trains per hour along the route. The work will involve completely rebuilding the crossover, which is a project that cannot be confined to quieter hours.
Therefore, between August 8th and 30th, northbound Victoria line trains will only run as far as Seven Sisters. Passengers travelling further north will be able to use rail replacement buses or catch an Overground train from Liverpool Street to Walthamstow Central. This option will be available once TfL takes over the operation of this route in May.
