AO expand into South East with 20th depot milestone

28 October 2020/Categories: CILT, Industry News, Freight Forwarding, Logistics & Supply Chain

Online electricals retailer, AO has opened its 20th depot in Bracknell as it continues to grow its vast logistics network. The new site at The Sterling Centre on Eastern Road will mean the retailer will be even closer to its customers across Berkshire.

Opened last Friday, the 20,000 sq ft site is the third depot to open its doors in recent months, following expansion into Kent and Yorkshire. With more customers than ever turning to online during the Covid-19 pandemic, the retailer has experienced increased demand. Expanding its logistics network with new depots and distribution centres is key to ensuring that AO can continue to provide the best possible delivery service across the country.

The new depot has created seven onsite jobs for people across Berkshire, and there will be a number of positions available in the delivery driver crews. The network of depots, known as ‘outbases,’ are supplied by the main distribution centres in Crewe, Stafford and Stoke. The nationwide delivery coverage ensures that AO is never more than one hour away from customers.

David Ashwell, MD of AO Logistics, said “It’s fantastic that we’ve reached the milestone of 20 depots after opening three new sites in quick succession. The rapid expansion of AO Logistics is really a testament to the hard work of our people and we’re proud of how much we’ve grown in the past six months.”

“The eases of shopping online for appliances has really stuck with customers and by owning our own logistics network, we’ve been in the best position to meet this increased demand. The new depot is in an ideal location to support our growth as a business – we’ll be able to serve our customers in Berkshire even better than before and it means we’re securing the best infrastructure for the future.”

AO.com acquired the two-person delivery company, formerly Expert Logistics, in 2009 and it now offers next day delivery to every UK postcode seven days a week on its range of 12,000 electrical products.
