UK minister shares expertise with Taiwan and Japan

30 January 2015/Categories: Industry News

Transport minister Baroness Kramer is currently visiting Taiwan and Japan as part of a delegation to raise the profile of British companies in the competitive transport sector.

Baroness Kramer is leading 14 companies who have been involved in major projects such as Crossrail, High Speed 2 and rail electrification, making this the largest transport delegation of this kind to the region.

The visit comes at a time when Taiwan is preparing to invest around £11 billion in six new metro lines and electrifying its railways over the next 15 years, which presents a valuable opportunity for UK businesses. British companies have already played a significant role in Taiwan’s transport development, working on projects including high speed rail, Kaoshiung Metro, Taipei Metro, and a new rail link between Taoyuan International Airport and Taipei City.

Baroness Kramer said: “The UK and Taiwan share bold plans and strong policies in transport and innovation in technology. Our companies continue to forge close ties with Taiwanese businesses and this visit helped to open new opportunities.
