Manchester Airport has resumed flights after heavy snow forced delays and cancellations. The impact of the severe weather has been felt across the north of England, with roads closed, trains delayed and schools and businesses shut.

The Met Office has issued a level three cold warning for England, with Yorkshire, the north-east and Lancashire predicted to be the worst hit. A Met Office spokesman said: “There is a 90 per cent probability of severe cold weather or icy conditions/heavy snow between Wednesday Jan 28th and Tuesday Feb 3rd in parts of England.”

Manchester Airport suspended flights at 9.20AM on January 29th, before allowing services to resume four hours later after the runways had been cleared by snow ploughs.

The airport recommends that travellers contact their operator before setting off to catch a flight, as further poor conditions are expected.

There have also been severe delays on the M62 after several vehicles got stuck in snowdrifts.
