A woman has died in County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland, after a car crash police believe was caused by icy conditions. This is the 79th death on Northern Ireland’s roads in 2014.
A Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) has spoken of his conversations with constituents expressing concern over the levels of gritting that have taken place.
MLA Daithi McKay said that accident-prone areas of the A26 and the Largy Line road had not been gritted. He added: “If there is pressure on the Roads Service to cover the gritting schedule, then we need to know about that as people are assuming that the roads are safe."
The A26 is said to have seen over 17 accidents during the weekend of December 27th and 28th.
NI Transport, which is responsible for the gritting, said the A26 had been salted thoroughly, and that further gritting is planned as the cold weather continues.
