The newly published North Wales Draft Transport Plan has emphasised a focus on relieving pressure at so-called ‘pinch points’ on the road network, as well as boosting the region’s economic prosperity. It is intended to work in tandem with the government’s National Transport Plan, which was published on December 10th.
It proposes measures to increase parking facilities and ease congestion in Llandudno, as well as improving road and rail links to industrial estates around Wrexham and Deeside. A new A55 access road to Holyhead is also planned.
The primary area selected for the ‘pinch point’ improvements is the Deeside Corridor, which comprises parts of the A494, A55 and A548. It is hoped measures in this area will help to relieve significant congestion.
Along with Anglesey and Wrexham, Deeside is one of the areas the local government has identified improved transport as "crucial for the region's economy", according to the report.
The drafts are currently open for public consultation until January 5th. They will then be presented to the Welsh Assembly for approval.
