Transport for London (TfL) have revealed that over 90 per cent of Londoners support its plans for a new Barclay’s Cycle Superhighway Two (CS2). Subject to TfL Board approval, CS2 is expected to be open by March 2016.
Out of those who responded to the public consultation, 89 per cent supported the scheme. This figure is 95 per cent when emails via the London Cycling Campaign about CS2 are included.
CS2 would consist of a segregated cycle route between Whitechapel High Street and Bow, kept apart from the rest of the traffic by a kerb or bendy, brightly coloured ‘traffic wands’. It would also have a total of 11 cycle-priority junctions to help keep cyclists safe at potential danger spots.
Mayor of London Boris Johnson said: “This consultation reveals resounding support for our mission to completely overhaul Cycle Superhighway Two. These plans will make the route safer for cyclists by giving them more space on the road.”
