A new integrated transport hub will replace Cardiff’s bus station by 2017, Cardiff City Council has announced.
The project will be built on the Marland House and NCP car park site, which is owned by the council. The site of the present bus station will become the new headquarters for BBC Wales when it moves from its Llandaff building in 2018.
Retail outlets will help mitigate the cost of the new building, which will cost around £11 million. The new transport hub will form an important part of the Central Square regeneration project. The council has already spent £25 million on obtaining the land for this redevelopment, which is expected to create one million square feet of premium office and retail space in central Cardiff.
Work will begin on the new integrated transport hub in 2015, when the current bus station will close. The city will be served by a variety of temporary bus stops until the new facility opens in 2017.
