Rail minister Claire Perry visited London Euston on December 9th to see the results of a £62 million investment in rail connections between London and the West Midlands.
This is part of London Midland’s updated timetable, which will run from December 14th. Overall, there will be ten new four-carriage trains. These will improve journey times between Northampton, Milton Keynes and London, as well as Crewe and London.
There will be more frequent services between Redditch and Birmingham, and more direct trains between Birmingham, Coventry, Rugby, and London.
London Midland managing director Patrick Verwer said that the changes were the biggest made to the company’s timetable for six years.
Overall, the new trains will provide 139,000 extra seats every week for London Midlands passengers: 64,000 in and out of London Euston and 75,000 in and out of Birmingham New Street.
According to Ms Perry, the new services will make a significant contribution to providing a “world-class rail network” for the UK.
