Transport for London (TfL) has unveiled detailed plans for a series of new river crossings to be constructed in east London.
According to TfL, the Silvertown Tunnel will connect the Greenwich Peninsula with the Royal Docks, while reducing queueing at the Blackwall Tunnel. New road crossings are also planned to the east of the tunnel.
The Silvertown scheme will support the creation of new jobs and homes across east London and allow new public transport links to be created that will connect both sides of the river.
A consultation has been launched on the proposals and will run until December 19th, with a report on the findings set to be published in spring 2015.
Mayor of London Boris Johnson said: "These new crossings will be essential not just for east London, but for the capital as a whole and its continued success as the motor of the UK economy."
If approved, construction work could begin in 2017 and take four years to complete at an estimated cost of around £750 million.
