Ryanair has announced its intention to continue its investment in John Lennon Airport (JLA), amid rumours it is planning on concentrating on Manchester Airport instead.
The budget airline has been accused of focusing on Manchester instead in regards to passenger growth over the next five years, but a report from the Liverpool Echo quotes the company as insisting that 32 routes will operate there next summer.
Passenger numbers are expected to fall by 500,000 at JLA to 1.5 million, whereas at its north-west rival they are predicted to reach 2.7 million - a growth of 300,000.
In addition to this, a senior executive reportedly said that out of the 180 new planes, none would be based at Liverpool - while some would be at Manchester.
A spokesman from the budget airline is quoted as saying growing new routes depends on demand, aircraft availability and a viable airport arrangement. He stated how the company had a good relationship with JLA and acknowledged there was suitable demand for expansion.
