The A421 between Bedford and Milton Keynes is to be upgraded to a dual carriageway under new plans unveiled today (July 7th).
Funds of £23.5 million have been awarded to the project as part of the local Growth Deals financing of £64.4 million provided to the South East Midlands Local Enterprise Partnership (SEMLEP) for a number of improvements across the country.
According to the organisation, more than 2,500 new jobs and 2,900 new homes will be created as a result of the A421 upgrades.
Dr Ann Limb, chair of SEMLEP, said: "We are delighted our Strategic Economic Plan has been agreed by government and that we have secured essential funding for much needed, local and strategic projects."
It is hoped the development will drive growth across the region, as well as providing the infrastructure required to facilitate the construction of new properties and improve the transport links between key business areas.
