The government has pledged substantial new investment to support infrastructure projects in Glasgow.
Some £500 million has been allocated for the schemes, making Glasgow the first city in Scotland to benefit from City Deal status. The coalition has invited the Scottish government to match its contribution and says the funding will attract money from the private sector.
It is hoped the investment will create more than 28,000 jobs in the Greater Glasgow area over the next 20 years and around £1.75 billion of economic growth in the city every year.
The city is in the process of establishing a £1.1 billion infrastructure fund to support major improvements to the region's roads and bus network, a rail link between the city centre and the airport and the development of new employment sites.
"These are genuine powers that will change the fortunes of people across the region by creating new jobs, improving transport networks, boosting businesses and providing skills to young people and the long-term unemployed," the prime minister and the chief secretary to the treasury said in a joint statement.
