Scottish deputy prime minister Nicola Sturgeon has unveiled a £10 million package of investment for Prestwick airport.
The money will be used to cover essential maintenance work, operational support and improvements to the terminal building, she announced. However, Ms Sturgeon insisted there is "no quick fix solution for Prestwick" and said the airport may remain loss-making for several years.
In addition, the first minister said the transport hub's name will not be changed to Robert Burns International, as to do so would risk causing confusion, although she said the poet could be used to help promote the airport.
Prestwick was bought by the Scottish government for £1 last year. Some £5.5 million of loans have already been provided to support the airport.
Ms Sturgeon described Prestwick as a "non-typical airport", as only around half of its revenue is dependent on passenger traffic. Future revenue could come from freight and retail development, she suggested.
