FTA demands HA looks closely at A14 proposals

08 April 2014/Categories: Industry News

The Freight Transport Association (FTA) has called on the Highways Agency (HA) to look closely at its proposals to redevelop the A14.

Plans for the scheme have taken a step forward recently, following the announcement of a ten-week consultation period. It is intended to gauge the opinions of local residents, businesses and haulage operators.

The Cambridge to Huntington stretch of the highway is said to be extremely important to freight movements across the country and the FTA stated it would consult members to assess the new proposals in detail.

Roads minister Robert Goodwill stated: "The redevelopment of the £1.5 billion A14 scheme is vital to the economic development of the region, helping to support and unlock growth across the east of England."

The new consultation is in response to feedback received from the HA's original plans to develop the route, which had included transforming it into a toll road. This was challenged by the FTA and the idea was subsequently dropped.
