CILT Board adopts modernised Bye-Laws and revised Code of Conduct

04 June 2024/Categories: CILT, Institute News, Membership

The Board of CILT(UK) has adopted a new set of Bye-Laws which modernise the operation of the Institute so that it can fully engage with its membership and other stakeholders more effectively.

The Board has been reviewing its governance for some time using a process in line with the Charity Commission’s Guidance on decision making. The board agreed a draft set of Bye-Laws which were published for consultation in April 2024. All responses were reviewed and further changes were made. In particular, a reference to the Charity Commission’s guidance was re-instated and some clauses were improved to make them clearer.

Vikram Singla, CILT(UK) Board Chair, said: “We are grateful to those who contributed to the modernisation of the Bye-Laws. Our intention is to make the Bye-Laws, the rules which guide the operation of the Institute, better reflect our charitable objects which are to promote, encourage and co-ordinate the study, planning and advancement of logistics and transport.

“Concerns from some members regarding regional activities have been addressed by making clear the role of the executive team to manage and support our volunteers, building a vibrant Institute with relevant, inclusive and attractive events.”

The governance review is continuing to ensure that all processes and documents are up-to-date and relevant.

The new Bye-Laws, Code of Conduct and the charitable objects which are the starting point for the Institute’s strategy, can be found on the Institute website at:
