Transport for London (TfL) has unveiled ten new Cycleways across the capital, adding 35km to London's expanding strategic cycle network.

The new routes aim to make cycling safer and more accessible for Londoners of all backgrounds and abilities.

The strategic cycle network has grown significantly, from 90km in 2016 to 390km in June 2024.

The latest additions include routes connecting communities in Stratford, New Cross, Barnet, Walthamstow and Ealing, among others.

Notable new Cycleways include links to existing routes in Lewisham, Newham, and Barnet's first Cycleway connecting Burnt Oak to Colindale.

In Waltham Forest, two new routes connect Chingford to Walthamstow, while upgrades have been made to the route along Chelsea Embankment and Grosvenor Road.

To support the launch, TfL has created user-friendly maps showing local Cycleway networks, helping people plan their journeys.

This follows the recent introduction of TfL Cycle Sundays, offering easy-to-follow leisure cycle routes across London.

Will Norman, London's Walking and Cycling Commissioner, said: "Expanding London's cycleway network is key to enabling more Londoners to choose cycling as their mode of transport for shorter trips.”

Helen Cansick, TfL's Head of Healthy Streets Investment, added: "We are really pleased to see a network of Cycleways continuing to emerge across more of outer London and these are helping to unlock safer cycling for all Londoners."

The expansion supports TfL's Cycling Action Plan 2, which aims to broaden cycling's appeal to a more diverse range of Londoners.

Recent safety data shows a 5.7%decrease in cycling injuries from 2022 to 2023, while daily cycle journeys increased by 6.3% over the same period.

Further Cycleways are planned for outer London, including major routes in Brentford and Hackney, set for completion by late 2024.
