Transport for London (TfL) has announced a funding initiative to enhance road safety and improve bus services across the capital.

The transport authority is making available up to £50 million for London boroughs to implement safety improvements on local roads, alongside £30 million dedicated to enhancing bus journey times and increasing ridership.

This new funding package comes in addition to the £80.4 million already allocated to London's boroughs through the Local Implementation Plan for 2024/25.

The combined resources aim to support boroughs in their crucial role of transforming local areas and advancing the Mayor's Vision Zero goal of eliminating deaths and serious injuries from London's transport network.

The £50 million road safety fund, to be distributed over three years, will focus on projects ranging from £0.5 million to £5 million.

Boroughs can apply for funding to tackle dangerous roads and junctions, implement speed reduction measures, and enhance protection for vulnerable road users, including pedestrians and cyclists.

Meanwhile, the £30 million Better Bus Partnerships programme will select three boroughs to receive up to £10 million each for transformational bus infrastructure and operational improvements.

According to TfL, this initiative aims to introduce new bus priority measures, better manage roadworks to reduce delays, improve interchanges between buses and other transport modes, and enhance access to bus stops and stations.
