Amazon has unveiled a new £500 million cutting-edge fulfilment centre at Gateway45 in Leeds, showcasing its latest robotics technology.
The facility, set to employ over 2,000 people by November, is currently recruiting for a diverse range of positions including engineering, HR, IT, health & safety, and finance roles.
The three-floor Amazon Robotics fulfilment centre utilises state-of-the-art technology for stowing, picking and shipping customer orders.
This new facility joins Amazon's growing network in the region, which includes a nearby delivery station, robotics sortation centre and the Wakefield fulfilment centre that opened in October 2022.
James Mason, West & North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce Chief Executive, praised the investment, said: "This further, significant investment from Amazon is a confirmation of our strategic location for the logistics industry as a whole, and a ringing endorsement for the strength and skillset of the workforce in our region."
Richard Thompson, Amazon's Regional Director, highlighted the company's commitment to the area and added: "This new site will create more than 2,000 new jobs, taking our total workforce in the region to more than 4,000 full and part-time roles, and our investment in the region to more than £1.5 billion since 2010."
The facility also emphasises energy efficiency, featuring solar roof panels and specialised building management systems.
Amazon said this aligns with the company’s broader sustainability goals, having achieved 100% renewable energy for its global operations last year.
