CILT (UK) Chartered Fellow and leading UK logistics and supply chain expert, Tony Mannix, has been awarded an honorary doctorate for outstanding contribution to industry from Sheffield Hallam University.
Tony currently provides specialist advice to GXO and is at the forefront of the company’s prisons programme, which looks to provide second chances for people in the prison system across the UK.
In 2023, Tony took on the role of Vice President at the employment charity Tempus Novo, an organisation with which GXO has partnered, along with New Futures Network.
Tempus Novo is an award-winning charity which supports ex-offenders into employment after release from prison.
Tony Mannix said: “I am absolutely delighted and very humbled to have been offered this honorary award by Sheffield Hallam University.
“It is such a marvellous business focussed academic institution and therefore it is with a great sense of pride that I am accepting the award.”
Tony has provided a strategic link between GXO and Sheffield Hallam through support for the development and growth of the supply chain leader higher degree apprenticeship.
The course is recognised by the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (UK) and it offers a route to membership.
According to GXO, the course has gone from 18 apprentices in 2019 to 200 in 2023.
Professor Conor Moss, Dean of the College of Business Technology and Engineering at Sheffield Hallam University, said: “We’re delighted to be welcoming Tony into the Sheffield Hallam family with an honorary doctorate.
“We have worked with Tony and GXO for many years and we value his knowledge and strategic input, which has helped us to develop and grow the successful supply chain degree apprenticeship.
“Tony thinks differently about the logistics sector, and through his influence and approach to recruitment, he has helped to significantly increase interest in talented graduates entering the logistics and supply chain sector.”
