Starting today, many local buses and coaches must provide both audio announcements and visual displays showing route information and upcoming stops.
The government has said this change will make bus travel easier for passengers with disabilities, particularly those with sight or hearing impairments.
The new rules currently apply to newer buses - those that have been in service since October 2019.
Older buses will need to add these features gradually over the next few years, with all buses required to comply by 2031.
The changes mean passengers will be able to:
- See displays showing the route and next stop
- Hear announcements about upcoming stops
- Better understand the direction of travel
These features aim to give passengers more confidence when using bus services, making public transport more accessible for everyone.
