Transport for London (TfL) has announced plans to offer free cycle training for every child in the city.
Forming part of the organisation's new Delivery Plan for Schools and Young People, the initiative is aimed at improving the safety of the most vulnerable road user, as well as making them aware of careers within the transport industry.
Last year, almost 39,000 children in the capital received cycling training in conjunction with TfL's work with 33 boroughs to encourage young people to get on two wheels. The scheme is delivered within the framework of the Bikeability programme.
Managing director for surface transport Leon Daniels commented: "We want to encourage a shift towards cycling and walking as part of the school journey and get more Londoners out of their cars during the school run."
The proposals will be part of TfL's commitment to reduce the number of people killed or seriously injured on the capital's roads by 40 per cent.
