Transport for London (TfL) and the London Marathon Foundation have been awarded over £580,000 to fund 55 new community projects.
Run by the Walking and Cycling Grants London (WCGL), the projects are aimed at making walking and cycling more inclusive across the capital.
The WCGL programme focuses on supporting traditionally underrepresented groups, including minority ethnic communities, disabled people, low-income individuals, homeless people, refugees, asylum seekers, and LGBTQ+ Londoners.
Miranda Leedham, Head of Customer Marketing & Behaviour Change at TfL said: "We are very excited to award grants to 55 new projects this year and continue to make walking and cycling accessible for all Londoners."
Some notable projects include the London Hand Cycling Club, Babes on Bikes, which empowers ethnic minority groups and women to cycle, and Silver Cycling, offering professional cycling sessions for adults over 60 to improve health and reduce social isolation.
The programme has already made significant strides, supporting 339 projects that have engaged more than 77,000 participants since its inception.
Additionally, London has expanded its cycleway network from 90km in 2016 to over 400km in June 2024.
London's Walking and Cycling Commissioner, Will Norman, emphasised the initiative's importance and said: "The Mayor and TfL are committed to making walking and cycling accessible to all.”
“We know what an impact these projects are having in their communities, enabling Londoners from all backgrounds to walk and cycle, and supporting the Mayor's aim to build a fairer, greener, more accessible London for everyone."
With more than £328,000 also allocated to 134 existing projects, the WCGL said it will continue its important work of creating a more inclusive and active capital.
