XPO Logistics has announced it has been selected to form a new logistics partnership with building materials specialist SOPREMA Group.
Under the partnership, XPO Logistics will manage the UK distribution requirements for the SOPREMA Group’s brands, including SOPREMA, Celotex, YBS Insulation and Chesterfelt.
It will centralise SOPREMA's distribution operations across its five UK sites in Witham, Hadleigh, Eggborough, Worksop and Chesterfield. XPO will manage all logistics through a dedicated fleet of 23 trucks and 47 trailers, alongside additional support from haulier partners and pallet networks.
A key focus of the collaboration is environmental sustainability, with plans to transition the core fleet to HVO fuel in 2025. The partnership will also implement new technology to monitor and reduce carbon emissions across operations.
CILT(UK) member, Dan Myers, managing director for UK and Ireland at XPO Logistics, said: "The SOPREMA Group and XPO Logistics have a shared aim to drive measurable improvement across all aspects of operations. Working together, I am confident that our teams will create a high-performing partnership that delivers for all SOPREMA's stakeholders over the short and long term."
The agreement includes the development of new IT systems aimed at improving customer service and tracking environmental impact.
A specialised CO2 dashboard will be created to help monitor and reduce emissions across the distribution network.
Michelle Mahoney, Supply Chain Director at SOPREMA Group (UK), added: "We are delighted to be working with a partner as efficient, capable and technically proficient as XPO Logistics. XPO is the right partner to drive the customer experience. Given XPO's experience and expertise in this sector and CO2 emission reduction, we know we have the best partner to move our business forward in the coming years."
