The Welsh Government has launched an innovative support programme to tackle the skills shortages faced by businesses across Wales. The Flexible Skills Programme, delivered by Welsh Government, offers financial support to help businesses retain, recruit, and train employees, ensuring a bright future for Welsh enterprises.
Recent research revealed that one in five Welsh businesses have identified skills gaps in its current workforce, and that the current economic conditions were making it harder to combat that challenge:
- Encouragingly, over a quarter (26%) of SME employers plan to recruit in the next 12 months, rising to 37% for skilled trade occupations.
- 30% say the current economic climate has made it harder to recruit staff.
- 2 in 5 expected to face challenges in retaining talent next year.
- 39% plan to train staff in the next 12 months, yet 17% say the current economic climate has made it harder to do so.
