Yusen Logistics implements 165-Robot automation system at Northampton facility

Yusen Logistics has contracted mobile robotics company Geek+ to deploy 165 Shelf-to-Person robots at its 1.2 million square foot distribution centre in Northampton. The project, delivered through UK warehouse automation integrator Logistex, represents a significant automation investment for the third-party logistics provider.

The robotic system will support both business-to-business and business-to-consumer operations across chilled and ambient storage areas. Implementation will occur in two phases to maintain operational continuity during the transition period.

The deployment utilises Geek+'s P800 V6.0 solution, designed for pallet and shelf movement. The technology aims to enhance picking efficiency, inventory accuracy, and space utilisation—factors particularly relevant for third-party logistics providers managing multiple client operations.

"This project demonstrates the power of flexible automation," said Simon Houghton, Sales Director UKI at Geek+. "Our Shelf-to-Person system enables scalable growth without disruption. We're proud to support Yusen Logistics in their first of this kind automation project in the UK but also in the Europe region."

The automation initiative forms part of Yusen Logistics' broader digitalisation strategy. Ben Bird, Business Development and Solutions Design Director at Yusen Logistics, explained the rationale: "By integrating Geek+'s robots, we will be able to improve accuracy, agility, and throughput. The system will give us the flexibility to scale alongside our customers' evolving needs while gaining a great customer experience."

Logistex will oversee the wider warehouse automation project, ensuring integration with existing infrastructure and business processes. "It's a pleasure working with Yusen and Geek+ on such a forward-thinking project," said Justin Saw, Business Development Director at Logistex. "Together, we look forward to delivering a future-ready solution with immediate results."

The project reflects growing adoption of Goods-to-Person robotics in the logistics sector, with providers seeking faster return on investment, reduced labour dependency, and improved safety standards. The Northampton deployment positions Yusen Logistics amongst logistics companies investing in automation technology to address evolving market demands.
