Discover more about Brian’s career and what membership means to him:

Can you outline your career progression and how you reached Chartered Fellow status?

My career began in finance before transitioning fully into logistics and supply chain management. Over the years, I’ve held progressively senior roles in both SMEs and multinationals—gaining hands-on experience in everything from global freight to strategic contract management.

At AstraZeneca, I led transformative projects that earned industry awards and internal recognition. These achievements, coupled with ongoing professional development (e.g., Lean Six Sigma, PRINCE2, and University of Cambridge Sustainable Supply Chain Management ), laid the foundation for Chartered Fellowship.

In my new role as Senior Manager, Supply Chain Technology and Transformation with Deloitte Ireland, I plan to draw from my UK experience to support clients in achieving operational excellence, digital transformation, and sustainable growth across their supply chains. Becoming an FCILT has been an important career highlight for me.

How long have you been a member of CILT(UK), and what motivated you to join?

I’ve been a member of CILT since 2019 and became a Chartered Fellow in 2025. I joined on the recommendation of a colleague who spoke highly of the practical benefits, networking, and learning opportunities.

“CILT has since played a crucial role in shaping my understanding of best practices across the logistics and transport industry and enhancing my leadership competencies. It’s helped me benchmark against industry standards and connect with a network of forward-thinking professionals.”

What impact has joining and upgrading your membership had on your career?

My membership remains a cornerstone of my professional development, offering insight into evolving best practices and a strong peer network.

I intend to bring this perspective into advisory engagements, helping clients navigate complexity and drive innovation in their work. Please free to reach out and connect with me on LinkedIn.

What is the best piece of career advice you have received in the transport, logistics or supply chain industry?

The best advice or approach I’ve received is: “Always design your logistics system with scalability and sustainability in mind.” This approach has stayed with me, especially on any of the projects I have worked or led on. Logistics isn’t just about the now—it’s about building future-ready systems that support growth and environmental responsibility.

I would also say, some other good career advice I have been given is to not sweat the small stuff. While it’s important to have attention to detail, it’s also critical to keep the big picture in mind so that you have a clear view on what is important for the company or department you work in. Understanding those priorities comes with experience.
