According to reports by the BBC, a subsidy aimed at securing the future of a regional bus network and preventing service cuts has b
een approved.
The West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) board has agreed to extend the Bus Network Support Grant beyond its December expiry date. The new agreement will provide financial support to bus operators for a further 15 months.
Transport for West Midlands (TfWM), which recommended the extension, currently provides approximately £50 million per year in subsidies. The organisation relies on this grant to maintain existing bus services across the region.
The decision comes as concerns grow about the sustainability of public transport networks, with operators facing financial pressures that could lead to route reductions without continued support.
The extension is designed to provide stability for both bus operators and passengers who depend on these services for their daily travel needs across the West Midlands.
