CILT(UK) is pleased to share that our Aviation Policy Chair, Chris Tarry, has been featured in a recent article in Airside Online examining the debate around Heathrow Airport’s proposed third runway.
The piece explores whether the long-discussed expansion is still justified in today’s different economic and aviation landscape. Chris sets out CILT’s view that assumptions made in earlier forecasts no longer fully reflect current realities, highlighting slower GDP growth, changing passenger behaviour and the declining role of transfer traffic at major hub airports.
He also comments on how advances in long-range narrowbody aircraft and the growth of point-to-point services are reshaping the UK’s aviation network, challenging the notion that Heathrow’s hub role is as critical as once assumed.
We welcome this opportunity to contribute an evidence-based perspective to an important national policy discussion.
