The London congestion charge looks set to rise by at least £1.50.
At present, drivers in central London have to pay £10 a day for entering the congestion charging zone, the level it has been at since 2011.
However, Transport for London (TfL), which operates the scheme, has said this means the duty has actually fallen in real terms over this time period.
Because of this, the body is seeking the views of Londoners on the proposed change to the charging structure as it tries to make sure the scheme remains an "effective deterrent to making unnecessary journeys in central London".
Garrett Emmerson, TfL's chief operating officer for surface transport, added TfL has listened to its customers about a number of issues in the past, such as over the introduction of the Congestion Charging Auto Pay system.
More than £1.2 billion has been invested in London's transport infrastructure through revenue since the charge was introduced in 2003.
