Dense fog resulted in around 80 flights being cancelled at London airports yesterday (December 11th).
At least 40 flights were halted at Heathrow, with many more being delayed or diverted as far as Birmingham Airport to escape poor visibility conditions.
Similar changes took place at Gatwick and London City Airport, which redirected incoming services to Stansted.
According to Meteogroup, the mist stretched over the south-east of the UK and up to the Midlands, although it did not appear to be dense enough for any major disruptions outside of Greater London.
It gradually lifted throughout the day and normal services have since resumed.
Earlier this month, severe storms across the UK caused various flights to be delayed or grounded. This was due to high winds making it unsafe to fly, with gales of up to 140 miles per hour recorded in parts of the country.
Some shipping operations were also delayed, such as Wightlink Ferries, which runs transport services between Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
