Storms in the UK will cause more delays, affecting trains in the east of England and East Anglia.
Network Rail has warned services to Lowestoft, Skegness and Great Yarmouth will be suspended until some point this morning (December 6th), as it waits for daylight to perform safety checks.
Yesterday, services were either delayed or cancelled across northern parts of the UK, notably Scotland and Yorkshire. The body predicted winds of up to 95 miles per hour (mph) but gales faster than 140 mph were later reported.
Director of operations for Network Rail Robin Gisby said: "People have coped marvellously well with the situation, both as passengers and as employees, as we now start to return the network to normal operations but that task will take many hours yet."
As a result of the winds, various trees, factory roofs and other debris have been blown onto sections of track, blocking the route and damaging equipment. In anticipation of this, the organisation has put "hundreds of engineers" on standby across the network, as well as actively monitoring its system of over 200 weather alarms.
