Heathrow Airport has won four of this year's Green Apple awards.
It was honoured as the 'Champion of Champions' but also received rewards for its sustainability efforts.
The hub was praised for its self-driven 'pods' which run on low energy with zero emissions, carrying four passengers between the business car park and Terminal Five.
On a wider travel, the sustainable efforts also received accolades for the Facility's attempts to ensure 65 per cent of its staff arrive by single-occupied vehicles by this year's end.
It was also praised for its Energy Centre, which aims to cut carbon across the airport. The £34 million building offers renewable heat and power with biomass-fuelled power.
As a result of this and other measures, Green Apple also focused on its carbon reductions - the Energy Centre alone has cut around 13,000 tonnes of CO2 each year, five per cent of its total.
Heathrow's sustainability director Matt Gorman said: "We are committed to running Heathrow responsibly and delighted to have been recognised for our achievements so far. We will continue to work closely with stakeholders, employees and passengers to continue to improve and build on this success."
Last month, it won the Optimisation accreditation from the Airport Carbon Accreditation, marking four consecutive years of cutting CO2 emissions.
