Plans for a potential, new six-runway airport at the Thames Estuary will be unveiled in the House of Lords today (November 11th).
The idea for what is currently known as London Britannia Airport is based around the Isle of Sheppey, Kent, with a combination of runways and docks.
The presentation by Thames Estuary Research and Development (Testrad ), led by Lord Berkeley, will suggest terminals could be located at the likes of East London and Kings Cross, as well as extending Crossrail to connect London stations to the main hub at Ebbsfleet.
Lord Berkeley told the Echo: "This scheme enables London to provide the most efficient and environmentally beneficial airport in the world and will safeguard the UK's position as a global destination for business, commerce and tourism."
Rival plans, however, involve building a four-runway facility on Kent's Isle of Grain or improving existing capacity at either Heathrow or Stansted.
Testrad, argues the location is ideal for flights around the clock, as there are no nearby residential areas to disturb. This location has also been dubbed 'Boris Island' due to the support it has received from the Mayor of London.
