Chancellor George Osborne has announced a taskforce to improve journey times in East Anglia.
Part of this involves cutting connections to London by 30 minutes and improving speed across the area by 25 per cent, as well as reducing travel time between London and Norwich to 90 minutes.
Plans are already underway to add capacity to the line, as the government predicts passenger numbers will grow by 50 per cent in the region in the near future.
Mr Osborne said: "To support this growth we need to have modern, efficient rail services and improved connections."
The initiative will consist of experts from Network Rail and the Department for Transport (DfT) alongside the region's local MPs, looking to identify affordable options at stations between London and Norwich.
DfT has asked Abellio, a major transport operator in the area, to update its fleet with new interiors, better facilities and power sockets for commuters and businesspeople travelling by rail.
