The government is too indecisive in its decision for airport expansion around London, according to mayor Boris Johnson.
Speaking at the Confederation of British Industry's (CBI's) conference yesterday, Mr Johnson once again called for a new airport hub to be built at Thames Estuary island, but expressed frustration at the ongoing waiting and debating over the issue.
He said: "When Howard Davies publishes his interim report next month he must put an end to this unforgivable, baffling and ludicrous uncertainty and explicitly rule out any expansion at Heathrow."
The mayor suggested the new hub proposal as one of three viable options, alongside expanding Stansted or a development on the Isle of Grain.
Heathrow, however, argues no other world cities have split their hub operations - research by JLS Consulting concludes many, like New York, have different airports for various purposes but still rely on one major hub.
In response to Mr Johnson's comments, CBI's chief policy director Katja Hall said it was "great to hear some blue sky thinking" on the matter, but urged politicians to wait for the Airports Commission's final outcome.
