London First has stated it believes "departmental dithering" is one of the biggest threats to the HS2 project.

It compares the debate about continuing or scrapping the project to discussions over expanding London's airports in the last 50 years.

Chief executive for London First Baroness Jo Valentine said: "We have seen with our airports the damage that repeatedly starting then cancelling major infrastructure projects can cause."

Baroness Valentine stated it would send a bad signal to any foreign businesses looking to invest in Britain's infrastructure.

She also claimed the expense of HS2 is still important and needs to represent value for the taxpayers' investment. Creeping costs were said to be a problem, with the management by the Department for Transport used as an example. These additional setbacks were compared to the West Coast rail franchise process.

London First believes HS2 should be supported rather than scrapped - both the Olympics and Crossrail were highlighted as examples of Britain's ability to successfully build infrastructure.
